I’ve dropped off the radar of late, spending the majority of my free time trying to play infuriating pieces on the piano. I used to play as a young lad, then promptly gave up as soon as I wasn’t forced into attending lessons by the ‘rents. I suppose the allure of lego was simply too great! Anyway, I decided a while ago that I should learn again. It’s all part of the grand plan. Piano now, then Violin or Cello when I retire! I do find it very relaxing at times, I like trying to teach myself things, but I can set rather unrealistic targets. I’m attempting a Rue Des Cascades by Yann Tiersen at the moment. It sounds amazing so it’s fun to play…but it’s not all that easy for someone with massively uncoordinated hands.
Oh and I drew all over a lamp (pic above). It was getting thrown out, so I thought I’d rescue it… then ruin it with pens! I also sorted a new crib in Manchester where I’ll be living with some friends, and sorted a little work to tide me over up there. Jolly good. Oh and I have been listening to RjD2 an awful lot, especially the instrumental album ‘In Rare Form’ check it out on Spotify! Steezy.

...more daylight in which to ride my bike please
I’m not a massive fan of this winter lark…well I mean I am a massive fan…but only when it involves snow and mountains….this darkness lark is rubbish. One day someone really clever is going to invent a miniature star that follows us around to make the winter a little brighter, a little warmer and a lot more bearable. Obviously there might be certain drawbacks accompanying a super-dense, super-heated, horrendously volatile ‘mini-sun’…but someone can invent an iPhone app to keep an eye on it I’m sure. Aaaaanyway…

..
… I’ve been spending too much of my time pining after snow lately. I need to get it into my head that I can’t spend all winter working eighty hour weeks playing in the snow. I’m a grown up now. Except grown ups are rubbish. Why would you voluntarily give up toys? I had an amazing Action Man jeep. It fired rockets and had a fold down windscreen. I must have pestered my parents faces off for it…probably went on hunger strike or reported them to Child Line. So I don’t really understand what could have happened in my life to warrant the voluntary relinquishment of such a prized possession. I can only assume that growing up brings on an acute form of madness where one feels the need to swap brilliant toys for decorative cushions, pot-plants and excessively large bottle openers. Anyway, as it’s not yet snow o’clock in europe, I have resorted to drawing things related to snow, namely pretty girls with goggles on. It’s a tenuous link I’ll admit… but it’s my tenuous link and I lost my Action Man jeep so have some sympathy.
On a serious note (and without spurious tangents) there is literally too much brilliant free music available. What with Mixcloud, Spotify, Last FM etc. there’s an absolute glut of! tune-idge! Of note is Erol Alkans ‘A bugged in mix’ brilliant relaxed psychedelia! I’ve been trawling though loads of artists I haven’t listened to for a while on Spotify. I’d forgotten how good Sage Francis was, especially The Human Death Dance album, and especially especially track 12 Black Out on White Night. Immense. I might even make a playlist for whoever it is that reads this. Who are you? Someone’s searching my name on google and it’s not me…I know my name off by heart and everything. Probably my nan, I bet she’s got a secret a computer hidden away…no one can spend that much time assembling jigsaw puzzles. Bye bye for now

Blimey! It’s been a long old while since updated this here dilapidated blog! I’ve been distracted by a veritable communication overload of late. After a some shocking problems with my old web hosting provider I took the opportunity to get a new site up and running which now resides at andrewlewiscampbell.com. Do feel free to have a gander. I finally got sucked into using Twitter occasionally and I’ve been trying out the rather lovely Cargo too. You may check out my Cargo site here if you so wish. Really amazing platform – does what it says on the tin…beautifully.

Cargo-tastic
In other news, I’ve gone fully self-employed now! My life is well and truly in my own hands which is somewhat terrifying, but maybe, just maybe things will work out. So if anyone reading this is in the market for a feast of visual delectability then please get in touch! Recent projects have involved product logos, labels and some signage for the Alcohol Free Shop. Lovely folk. While I’m more than happy on the creative side of things, running a business is a whole new world to me, but I got in touch with Business Link and they’ve been brilliant offering excellent one to one advice and guidance for absolutely zero pennies. Great source of information for anyone going it alone.

Business Link even sorted me out with some extra storage...and more importantly a set of accounts!
I seem to have included a whole load more links than usual(ZeRo)! So while I’m at it, I’ve been enjoying the various mixes over at Kitsune Noir. I’m tired of my music at the moment, so it’s nice to get a new selection laid out on a plate. Right, I’m awwwf to do some work before maybe enjoying some of this fine autumn sunshine. Toodle Pip

Lovely day. Not-so-lovely face

…found the work of Angelique Houtkamp through an amazon books recommendation. Over the weekend I’ve been re-hashing her tattoo style with ideas of my own. I wanted to draw something that would work well as a sticker at different sizes. I’ve always been obsessed with stickers, god knows why. The whole Übermensch thing is a result of a Nietzsche documentary I watched a few days ago. Anyway, it still needs a lot of fiddling with, but I quite like it…I’ll probably hate it by this afternoon mind!

I’ve been trying to coax brushes along this eve and somehow it’s 2am! Tomorrow morning’s going to be a joy!

I had a bit of time free yesterday afternoon. I decided I would go for a run. After a mile or two I decided that there was no reason I shouldn’t be able to run one of my normal bike circuits. So I ran 15 miles. It was slightly tiring! I don’t normally run much more than 4 rather un-spritely miles. When I woke up this morning I realised why I shouldn’t do things like this…DOMS o’clock had dawned!

Graft graft graft! That’s the theme for this month! I’m on a mission, sifting through old work, trying to piece together my new portfolio. A year ago it was all about eeking out what little was available. Now there’s more than enough to get confusing! I must be averaging a good 15 hours per day! I quite like it though but I need to keep focused. I keep veering off on tangents. “Oooh now if I learn all about this javascript I’ll be able to make pixels dance. Why I can be like a digital Pied Piper. Come hither my binary friends!” Of course then I just spend a few hours getting confused…occasionally producing something of use through a much greater measure of luck than judgement. Hmm, I might go and draw some scales now. Luck is weightier for the young. Whereas judgement weights heavy on the silver thronged cranium of the old. Yes, this may work. It will more than likely be consigned to a distant hard-drive, but it shall be nonetheless. I think this level of thought mis-management is a good indicator of a need for some rest now. Out
